1972
110572 Progress Report by Permittee for 1972; finished; use not
commenced, 1200 head of sheep; went dry, never filled since being built;
did not spill, no water; "Lease with sheep man cancelled. Released to
cattle man, who will not put any cattle on property until there is some
feed and water. Water from early rain covers half [to p. 2] the bottom
of Robert Reservoir to around 10 inches deep; lake Violet dried up and I
lost a lot of my catfish. Friends and I caught quite a few then I asked
the game warden to seign [?] so as not lose all the fish. After I saw
signs that they had been to the reservoir a friend and I still caught
catfish. I them had a friend fish and they caught 12. After that the
reservoir dried up and I counted the remains of around 100 fish mostly
bluegill, and one fish 1-1/2 foot long & 10 inches wide (Crappie or
Bass) which missed the wardens seine. I'll say the wardens did a lousy
job, after I had spent over $100.00 feeding these fish over the years.
It is my estimate that it will take at least 5 or 6 inches of steady rain
to fill the reservoirs that this application calls for. /s/ R.Knudsen;
P.S. When this reservoir fills I will try to remember to write you of
such."
1973
101573 Progress Report by Permittee for 1973; "Work completed by
Walter Steuben in 1971 at a cost of $287.50"; used Jan - May; spilled
this year, down 10 feet end of season; "Ranch leased to Jack McKinzey of
Red Bluff, who runs 250 head of cattle on the property. During summer
months Cattle are taken to the mountains. Since Lake "Robert" installed
and fillled with water, I have noticed (2) new deer trailes [sic]
leading to it, so deer are also using the reservoir. /s/ RCK."
1974
112574 Progress Report by Permittee for 1974; "Reservoir built by the
late Walter Steuben in Feb. 1971 at a cost of $289.50"; stockwatering
250 steers; used all months except June - Oct.; spilled this year; "I
was there two weeks ago and water was 30' long 20' wide & 3' deep.";
"Ranch leased to McKenzie & [garbled] for cattle. I was at the ranch two
weeks ago and noted the light rains so far have not raised the water
level much if any. As stated, the water at bottom of Lake Robert was
30 ft long 20 ft wide & about 3 feet deep. Lessee had not brought cattle
down from mountains as yet, so up to now water is being used by deer
and ducks."
